Registrar of Voters
The US Department of Justice has filed a lawsuit against Orange County stemming from non-citizens on the voter roll in Orange County. This is an action we do not need. The people of Orange County do not want to fund more extensive litigation when we fought so hard to balance the budget.
I’m calling on Registrar Bob Page to work with the Department of Justice now so this case can be dismissed.
I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t value free and honest elections. This is the cornerstone of our democracy and sets us apart from other countries. From the Revolutionary War to the post-Civil War era, Americans have treasured our right to vote.
The civil rights group Judicial Watch settled a federal lawsuit against California and Los Angeles in 2019, forcing the removal of more than 1.5 million voters from rolls. In 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that such removals are mandatory. Judicial Watch has been monitoring what is supposed to be an ongoing purge of invalid voters and filed another lawsuit against the state last year due to “removing so few registrations.”
We do not need to be the losing side of this issue.
My office met with Registrar Bob Page shortly after I took office. We wanted to learn the process for counting ballots and how the registrar kept his rolls. I was left with many questions that were unanswered.
If the County does not comply with the federal government’s inquiries into the allowing non-citizens to vote, I welcome their investigation into the matter.
