$3.7M in stolen funds on track to return to First District
SANTA ANA, CA — Today the Board of Supervisors held a straw vote of 5-0 in favor of returning $3.7 million in seized funds to the district of Orange County Supervisor Janet Nguyen.
The money was stolen by her predecessor, Andrew Do, and it was recovered from his assets. The matter was discussed during a Board budget hearing and is set to have a final vote on June 23.
More than 200 residents attended and/or spoke at the Board meeting, and hundreds of residents called and emailed urging the supervisors to return the funds to the community which was shorted during the pandemic.
“I am so humbled and grateful to all the residents who took time out of their day to make their voices heard,” said Supervisor Janet Nguyen. “They are all amazing. We even had a 92-year-old woman take Uber here to support this item. This money will go a long way toward supporting the First District.”
