Orange County recovers $3.7M stolen from First District

SANTA ANA, CA — The Orange County Board of Supervisors will be voting on where to allocate $3.7 million that was recovered from a scheme by former Supervisor Andrew Do to defraud residents of the First District.

Do stole more than $10 million in federal grant funds meant to support seniors, low-income residents and businesses during COVID. The Board will hold a vote on May 19 to determine whether the funds should go back to the First District or elsewhere.

“It’s obvious that the money was stolen from our district and should be returned here,” Supervisor Janet Nguyen said. “I have been fighting for 18 months to ensure that the money did not go to the federal government. Now that we won that battle, the next step is making our community whole again.”

Other county supervisors have received their full share of the funding and have been spending the money to help their constituents. Supervisor Janet Nguyen says our community deserves the same opportunity and this is a matter of fairness.

Residents are encouraged to attend the May 19 Board meeting to make their voices heard. Please inform the clerk that you wish to make a public comment and tell the Board how the funds could help your community.
